During a flashback, we learn that Nova is actually Felicita’s cousin, and that they were betrothed. At some point. Nova broke the engagement, but even so, he appreciates being in the Arcana family.

(Nova’s offered free food and housing for marrying Felicita. “Catch then young”, says Mama)

Felicita’s concerned that Nova is being cold to her, so she cooks a special chickpea soup for him. As an act of friendliness, he lets her check out some ‘improper use of funds’ that are being handled by Jolly’s research.

(Nova’s turn to do the dishes, Felicita brings them in style)

Jolly turns out to have “nothing to hide”. He gladly hands over documents that will expain all the funding that he’s used.

(“As you can see, I have nothing to hide. Now let’s turn back…”)

In the meantime though, behind a thick curtain, he has something developing.

(“Don’t worry, Zordon, I’ll protect you”)

Nova can’t trust the documents given to him by Jolly, but he does find his parents’ research within the pages. Nova’s parents had been very ambitious, and pushed Nova through his whole life, including going to the Arcana family and being married to Felicita.

In the end he put them in a coma with his Power of Death.

(Nova’s practicing for the singing competition promised in the next episode)

Slightly shaken by the revelation, Felicita feels pity for Nova, rather than horror. Seeing Liberta training to be stronger, she wonders how she can help both of them.

(Felicita wonders where to put the plant-food… on the petals?)

Overall, many parts of this episode are a fragmented snooze. I’m not sure why random people keep showing up as if to say “Hey, remember this isn’t about romance. You guys are supposed to police this island”.

Nothing gets pinned down though. In fact, as a vigilante family, they do surprisingly little if the highlight of their day is eating pies and buying fertiliser.

Nova’s past was interesting, but after Liberta’s revelations last episode, it loses impact.

Another arc that shows promise is Jolly’s weird mutation thing, but what’s the bet it’ll be dropped for the next episode?

Rated – 2.5/5 Desperately needs to drop little activities and focus on the large cast of characters.
