First song up is Ukraine, with Tick-Tock, sung by Mariya Yaremchuk. This is a catchy song, but lacks powerful vocals, and will end up being shaded by many other pop songs in the competition.

20:18

eurovision_05

The second song is by Balarus, singing Cheesecake, sung by Teo. This is pretty tame by Eurovision standards, but the song is about being a cheesecake, so I guess it gets the ridiculous vote.

20:21

eurovision_06

From Azerbaijan, the song is Start a Fire, sung by Dilara Kazimova. The song may not be to everyone’s taste, but it is wonderfully produced, and sounds amazing to my ears.

20:25

eurovision_07

From Iceland, the song is No Prejudice, sung by Pollaponk. Grown-up teletubies are seriously catchy. I am completely surprised by this, who knew that this would actually be a good song. I was expecting something of a joke..?

20:29

eurovision_08

From Norway, is Silent Storm, sung by Carl Epsen. A surprisingly understated song for Eurovision, and this is subtle enough to get inside people’s mind’s and give them shivers. It might not turn out to be the most memorable offering of the night though.

20:32

eurovision_09

From Romania, is the song Miracle, sung by Paula Seling and Ovi. A catchy dance tune, and brings a great energy, but the singers have a strangely dead expression on their faces.

20:37

eurovision_10

From Armenia, the song Not Alone, sung by Aram MP3. This is a suprisingly haunting song, and the special effects fir perfectly. I don’t think Aram is hitting any great notes, but the song just has a quiet roaring power. Possible contender to win, maybe?

20:40

eurovision_11

From Montenegro, is Mot Svijet (My World), sung by Sergej Ćetković. I’m not a fan of the song, it feels a bit lacklustre, but the skater and the garden are lovely. Adds a touch of magic to the whole performance.

20:45

eurovision_12

From Poland, the song My Słowianie – We Are Slavic, sung by Donatan & Cleo. I’m not even sure what I think of this song. The scantily dressed ladies, and boob shots are all well used tricks, but is this some sort of rap? It all sounds a bit embarrassing for Poland.

20:50

eurovision_13

Next is Greece, singing Rise Up, sung by Freaky Fortune feat. RiskyKidd. A fast-paced song with a greek vibe. Greece has done consistantly well in this competition, so I’m sure people will vote for this. It’s catchy, but simple.

20:53

eurovision_14

From Austria, singing Rise Like a Phoenix, sung by Conchita Wurst. Even though Conchita has been grabbing headlines ever since she was announced, I haven’t heard this song. It’s pretty good, and just gives me James Bond theme vibe. She may win!!

20:56

eurovision_15

From Germany, singing Is It Right, sung by Elaiza. This song may have had some impact if it had come before Conchita’s performance, but following that epic finale, it sounds hockey and rubbish.

21:03

eurovision_16

From Sweden, is Undo, sung by Sanna Nielsen. What a terrific voice and what a song to match. Strong and powerful, and will fit right into many countries charts. No wonder she is the favourite.

21:08

eurovision_17

From France, is Moustache, sung by TWIN TWIN. Good grief, this is terrible. Terrible singing, and flat. Although I have a feeling that it is hitting the “fun” note for some people.

21:11

eurovision_18

From Russia is the song Shine, sung by Tolmachevy Sisters. This song sounds a lot older than it should. The twin sisters, looking like Jedi, are riding a see-saw, and hitting some great notes.

21:16

eurovision_19

Next is Italy, with La mia città (My City), sung by Emma. A rock song seems strange in this lineup, but feels like a welcome break after all the belting pop songs. I can’t understand a word the lead singer is saying, but it’s all cool.

21:20

eurovision_20

From Slovenia is Round and Round, sung by Tinkara Kovac. Good song, though I was under the impression the flute would be used more. The opening felt so sweet. but the song dips into pop music.

21:23

eurovision_21

From Finland is Something Better, sung by Softengine. A solid rock song by an actual band. When boyband was mentioned, I really though, “oh no, more pretty boys”, but these guys have serious talent.

21:28

eurovision_22

Next is Spain, with Singing in the Rain, sung the Ruth Loranzo. She’s not actually dancing in the rain, but the effects and her hair are making it look like so. I have to say the song is okay, it’s nothing brilliant, but if she does better than the UK, we can feel safe claiming her as one of our own. (Considering she was on the UK X Factor!)

21:32

eurovision_23

Next is Switzerland, with Hunter of Stars, sung by Sebalter. I’m not sure if the whistling is annoying or insanely catchy! The song is good to bop along to. The singer’s accent makes the English words indecipherable.

21:35

eurovision_24

From Hungary, singing Running, by András Kállay-Saunders. Lots of Mummy and Daddy-ies in this song. Quiet a cool vocal performance by Andras, who seems like a cool guy himself.

21:39

eurovision_25

From Malta, is Coming Home, sung by Firelight. With a country feel to it. I think at this point I’m tired. I should like this, but I just want this to be over. The song lacks something…

21:44

eurovision_26

From Denmark, Cliche Love Song by Basim. There’s something so likable about Basim, it’s his cheeky smile, and his catchy lyrics. I think this song will do well.

21:48

eurovision_27

From Netherlands, is the song Calm After the Storm, sung by The Common Linnets. A sad feeling song, with both vocalist singing into eachother’s faces as the camera moves around them. Not particularly interesting… It just doesn’t fit in with the flare of the Eurovision, although it would make a nice “real” song.

21:51

eurovision_28

Second to last to San Marino, singing Maybe, by Valentina Monetta. As soon as I saw the background, I knew this was either really great or really bad. Sadly Valentina falls into the forgettable pile. Love. Maybe. Stuff.

21:56

eurovision_29

Last is United Kingdom, with Children of the Universe, sung by Molly Smitten Downes. Absolutely stunning performance by Molly. She did UK proud. I have always loved her breathy voice, and her gorgeous vocals and lyrics. I feel so proud of the UK at this point. Molly to WIN!!!!!
