“New expansion pack: Fishing in a lake and sleeping till noon”

(Tickle Kirito until he sneezes more excitement)

Studio: A-1 Pictures

Genre: Game, MMO, Fantasy, Sc-Fi, Age: 13+

Released: 6th July 2012 – onwards

From the previous episode, Kirito and Asuna take a break away from their guild in order to enjoy married life. Everything is peaceful in this idealistic valley, and their days look peaceful. But is all as it seems?

After teasing Asuna about a ghost in the woods, Kirito does stumble onto a young girl by herself.  The strange thing about her is that she has no player cursor.

(Does she have a name-tag? A dog collar? ..A barcode? )

The girl, Yui, wakes up at Kirito’s and Asuna’s lodge, and claims that they are her parents. Yui is happy to live with her new-found parents, however the couple still need to return her to her own family.

(Daddy reads the newspaper while Mammy serves snacks. Exciting!)

the town of Beginning seems like the best place to start, but when they reach the town, Yui doesn’t recognise any of the buildings.

(“Shall we just dump her here, she can find her own way home”)

The Army guild has been busy policing the town of beginnings, but some of the members have been harassing the locals. A group of children is defended by their teacher, after being robbed and stripped of all money and equipment.

(Teacher in Sword Art. It’s a worthwhile career.)

Kirito and Asuna jump is to help to the kids and scare the Army members away.

(“Back off creeps, I’ve almost-sometimes-kinda managed to kill before…”)

Yui collapses when a strange screech fills the air. She come to consciousness screaming that she was in darkness before. Asuna calms her down.

It’s clear that there is a more sinister underlining to this.

(If you keep hugging her, she’ll never leave)

Overall, the couple-y and mumsy-ness of the episode alienated me. Asuna and Kirito are a young pair, so why have they traded in their cool costumes for something more mundane.

Both of them don’t act or look like they have the maturity to raise a child, but yet pleasantly chuckle their way through Yui’s antics.  It was a bit too good-goody for my taste.

Maybe the series will follow a more gentle pace, or maybe it will speed up again soon. It just didn’t sit well with me.

Rated – 3/5 Sweet and uncharacteristically quiet episode.
