Anime: Natsuyuki Rendezvous – Episode 7 Summary + Review

“Who wants to go to the seaside?”

(Style-guru Atsushi can finally tell Rokka to burn the bucket-hat now that he’s alive)

Studio: Dogakobo

Genre: Romance, Paranormal, Josei, Age: 13+

Released: July 1 2012 – onwards

From the last episode, after Rokka confesses that she returns Hazuki’s feelings, Atsushi realises that she’s going to move on from him.

Atsushi-as-Hazuki and Rokka go on a date to the beach as a couple.

Warning! May contain Spoilers!

Surrendering herself to Hazuki takes a lot of courage, and Atsushi naturally returns Rokka’s feelings.

Rokka doesn’t realise that he’s her husband, and Atsushi doesn’t tell her, although he’s conflicted about using Hazuki’s body. The next day, Atsushi-as-Hazuki leaves without a world, leaving Rokka feeling very used.

She notices that he writes the beginning characters of Atsushi’s name, before crossing it out and writing Hazuki.

(Rokka gets stuck with the bill. How cheap!)

After going into his own room at Rokka’s flat, Atsushi clears up “his own mess” and takes memories of him away. The plant pot has some significance and he removes that from the room.

(Atsushi doesn’t know how to handle money, now he’s homeless…)

Meanwhile, the real Hazuki is trapped in an underwater world with a mermaid Rokka. She’s not much use in getting out of the world, and Hazuki’s getting frustrated with the infamous Prince. Left with nothing to do, he decides to wait out the Prince’s problems.

(It’s so boring that Hazuki builds a life-size castle)

Feeling really dejected, Rokka receives a call telling her to come to the shop. Coming home, after Atsushi has left, she finds that her husband has left plants and bouquets for her.

Without knowing that it was actually Ataushi, the flowers reminded her of her husband. Tearing up she is confused between moving on and staying with the memories of her husband.

(The world’s most considerate burglar leaves flowers as thank-you for letting him steal)

The episode ends with her wondering who she loves more.

Overall, this was another episode that dragged. It’s nice that this series has a consistent pace, but Hazuki’s been missing for far too long, and Atsushi didn’t really progress the plot. In fact, he seems to be attempting to erase himself, but also retain Rokka’s feeling for Hazuki. Since that was going to happen anyway, it makes for a rather uninteresting episode.

I’ve mentioned before how Rokka and Hazuki are awkward to be around. Well, Atsushi didn’t try to engage Rokka well either. Conversations flopped around, and characters fumbled for works. It wasn’t great.

Hopefully something will get straightened out soon.

Rated – 2.5/5 Hazuki’s still missing so cast feels empty. Not much progress with confrontations.
