Anime: Digimon Frontier – Episode 1 Summary

“Man, my destiny sucks!”

(Takuya running for his destiny)

Studio: Toei Animation

Genre: Adventure, Fantasy, Age: All ages

Released: April 1, 2001 – March 31, 2002

I’ve wanted to watch Digimon Frontier for ages. I used to be a big series fan a couple of years ago, particularly of Digimon Adventure, 02 and Tamers, but education and being a grown-up took it’s toll, and now I don’t have much time to dedicate to series. Digimon will always have be special to me, just because it’s from my childhood, and so now I’m trying to get the dub of this series finished.

I prefer the dub of Digimon to the Japanese version, just because I find the writing funnier. I know other people may think differently. In this series, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Michael Reisz plays Takuya. Many people will remember him as Yamato “Matt”  Ishida in Digimon Adventure and 02.

Takuya, a bored young boy, sitting in ordinary in his house gets a message for him to catch a  train. He doesn’t know the source, but decides to do it anyway out of curiosity.

Along the way he meets someone also following the same instructions, but doesn’t manage to get their name.

Turns out that the train lead to the Digital World, and are part of who he will become. In his chosen train, he meets three others who are part of the same destiny.

(Zooey, JP, Takuya)

After they make it into the Digital World, panic kicks in as they realise how to get home. A hint is given to them: they are Digi-Destined and must find the “Spirit” in order to return home. Takuya manages to find one, a brilliant looking costume that allows him to Spirit Digivolve: for the first time a HUMAN can turn into a DIGIMON.

(Takuya and Tommy)

Using his newfound powers, he defeats Cerebramon, but their adventure is just beginning..
